Are You Left or Right Brain Oriented?

November 2nd, 2007

There is an interesting picture of a spinning lady. Which way does she spin for you?

I was able to reverse the flow.

More on Left Brain Right Brain can be found here, including a test you can take:

Logic vs feeling, intuition, beliefs, facts vs imagination, language, symbols, details vs big picture etc.

Interesting ways and waves, to be sure.

Education Comes In Many Forms

October 17th, 2007

Education and learning in life and about life comes in many forms. Sometimes these notions do not conform to the regular, whatever that is, notion of “higher” education. Education is such a broad subject and covers many things.

I like to keep an open mind about the subject of education and also realize that different people will have different opinions on the subject.

One aspect I have had interest in is “motivation” and there are quite a few people involved with this. One of the popular speakers is Anthony Robbins, formerly known as “Tony”. Anyway, that is an identity that he has put forth. Who we are is much more than those identities or labels we take on in life.

I know of someone who obtained “average” grades in high school. Around grade 11 he came upon some “Tony” Robbins tapes and decided to listen to them. Sometime after doing the tapes something seemed to click in this person and he become more studious and he started to improve his grades dramatically.

He went on to Harvard University and become one of the top two students in his class. He has since moved on to a position with the World Bank.

The question is, did listening to the Robbins tapes have an effect on him? I am sure it did yet it would be difficult to “prove” this scientifically. In any event it is certainly something interesting to consider.

Adult Education A Growing Trend

October 2nd, 2007

There are many reasons for an adult to want to expand their knowledge and skill. Sometimes it is for personal knowledge or a desire to find better employment or a new career. It may be a requirement just to “keep up” with their present job and not be left behind. Some may have left school early and are now ready to further their education.

Whatever the reason, there are lots of opportunities and availability to serve this market of education seekers. Anyone can do some research on the internet to see what is available in their community or around the globe.

There will be many considerations such as going back to school full time or taking classes while continuing to work.

Best wishes to all who take this rewarding path.
